Orton-Gillingham Level 1: Classroom Educator/Associate Level Coursework
The Orton-Gillingham Associate Level course provides participants with instruction in the basics of the Orton Gillingham approach. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a systematic, multisensory and diagnostic-prescriptive approach to teaching the continuum of language skills including phonological awareness, decoding, spelling, morphology, and handwriting. The course includes instruction in identifying the characteristics and needs of the learner with dyslexia, outlining the principles of multisensory structured teaching, unpacking the structure of the English language, and designing and implementing lessons. O-G is highly effective for teaching students with dyslexia as well as other individuals who need explicit instruction in the basic skills of language. This course offers 42 hours of instruction that meet the prerequisite for the Classroom Educator practicum component. The instructor is a Fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Practicum and Fieldwork
This option is ideal for Tier 1 and Tier 2 educators. The Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator practicum provides teachers with the opportunity to apply the principles of O-G instruction to working with a small group of struggling students at their own school site. The participant will design and teach 50 lessons under the supervision of a Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham. This practicum experience requires a minimum commitment of eight consecutive months, during which the participant will receive five formal observations from the Fellow. When the practicum hours and observations are completed, the participant will have met the requirements of the Orton-Gillingham Academy for membership at the Classroom Educator level. The instructors are Fellows of the OGA.
Prerequisite: Participants must have completed the Orton-Gillingham Level I course within the last two years. Enrollment is ongoing. Please call for more information.
